A quick recap

Centred on the infiltration of a shape-shifting race, better known as the Skrulls, on our planet, the series promises to tie up loose ends from previous films in the Marvel Universe. First introduced in Captain Marvel, the Kree-Skrull war marked the Skrulls as a villainous race who invaded and took over planets. However, it was later revealed that Yon-Rogg, mentor to Captain Marvel Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), was the real antagonist as commander of the Kree. Talos (played by Ben Mendelsohn) explains the backstory and abilities of the Skrulls, noting that their ability to transform takes practice and skills to execute perfectly. Fans of Captain Marvel may remember that Talos formed an alliance with S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in the 2019 film, and Danvers had promised to find the Skrulls a new home.

Talos and another fellow Skrull, Soren, reappear in Spider-Man: Far From Home during the end-credits scene, where it's revealed that they were disguised as Nick Fury and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) all along. Their daughter, who went unnamed in Captain Marvel, will be played by Emilia Clarke in the new series and is called G’iah - but unlike her parents, she bears resentment towards humans. In the same end-credits scene, we also learn that Nick Fury is on a spacecraft with Skrulls. (In the Disney+ series “WandaVision”, a Skrull appears to tell another superhero, Monica Rambeau, that she was sent by an “old friend” of her mom, most likely referring to Fury.) These clues are a clear callout to Marvel fans, hinting at all the exciting things to come in the new series, and we are just as excited as you are to watch the story unfold.

While the press conference for the series was discreet, here is what you should pay attention to in the coming series. James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes (Don Cheadle) will be reprising his character in this series and might even star in Marvel’s upcoming Armor Wars. On top of that, keep an eye on new character Sonya Falsworth (Olivia Colman), who works for MI6 - and will pose a challenge to Fury and his goals.
