Duchess Meghan's outfit at Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral had a subtle tribute to the late royal matriarch.

Today, the Duchess of Sussex appeared at Westminster Abbey to attend the funeral of the queen, who died at 96 years old on September 8. For the somber occasion, she wore a black cape dress with matching stockings, pointed-toe pumps, a wide-brim hat, and black gloves.

Meghan previously wore a blue version of the dress, designed by Stella McCartney, to a televised concert at the Royal Albert Hall in honor of the queen's 92nd birthday.

She accessorized the look with another subtle reference to the queen, wearing only a gold bracelet and a pair of diamond-and-pearl stud earrings gifted to her by the monarch.

This isn't the first time that Meghan paid her respects to her grandmother-in-law via her accessories. While attending the procession of the late monarch's coffin to Westminster Hall last week, the duchess accessorized with the same pair of earrings. Queen Elizabeth II presented the piece of jewelry to Meghan in honor of their first solo outing together back in 2018, according to People.

In her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, the duchess said, "The queen, for example, has always been wonderful to me. I mean, we had one of our first joint engagements together. She asked me to join her. We had breakfast together that morning, and she'd given me a beautiful gift, and I just really loved being in her company. She gave me some beautiful pearl earrings and a matching necklace."

Meghan isn't the only royal to honor the queen through jewelry. Since the queen's passing, Duchess Kate has made multiple public appearances wearing fine jewelry pieces that were formerly part of the queen's possessions.

For the queen's funeral today, Kate wore a four-strand Japanese pearl choker necklace with a diamond center that once belonged to the monarch.

This past weekend, the Princess of Wales attended a reception for the leaders of Commonwealth nations at Buckingham Palace while donning the queen's favorite three-strand pearl necklace and diamond-and-pearl earrings.

And prior to that, Kate wore a diamond-and-pearl brooch in the shape of three leaves that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II to the procession of her coffin last week. She paired the brooch with diamond-and-pearl drop earrings that were previously owned by Princess Diana.
