Only Murders In The Building Season 3: Everything We Know So Far

Hulu's most-watched comedy will have an eventful third season.

OMITB Season 3

It's official: Hulu's Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for Season 3, which means more juicy clues ahead for the Arconia neighbors to solve.

Starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, the popular murder mystery series follows true-crime fanatics Mabel Mora (Gomez), Charles-Haden Savage (Martin), and Oliver Putnam (Short), who work together to solve an ever-thickening murder mystery case that unravels in their Upper West Side apartment building. In Season 2, the trio themselves become implicated in a new homicide that kills off Jayne Houdyshell's Bunny Folger—and per showrunner John Hoffman, Season 3 will likely "up the stakes" even further.

Ahead, see everything we know so far about OMITB's awaited third season, including the projected release date, plot teases, as well as potential new cameos.

When will Season 3 drop?

The new season's release date hasn't yet been confirmed, but according to the trio on TikTok, it will likely be sometime in 2023. In a cheeky promo video ahead of Season 2 last month, Gomez, Martin, and Short raise a toast to a great second season. "To a great Season 3—well, next year," Martin says, to which Gomez replies, "Hopefully."

Now that the show's third season has officially been confirmed by Hulu, we can hope that it will arrive next summer, if the timing between seasons remains a year apart.

What will go down in Season 3?

After revealing the killer and wrapping up the murder case for Bunny, the season 2 finale included a surprising flash forward which sets up the next season's mystery. One year later, Charles is acting in a play directed by Oliver(!) and feuding with his co-star Ben Glenroy, played by Paul Rudd(!!). We don't know what secrets are keeping the two actors from getting along, but when Glenroy drops dead on opening night, it's clear that Charles will be a person of interest.

Who will make up the Season 3 cast?

Jesse Williams of Grey's Anatomy will be joining the Murders cast for Season 3 in a new recurring role: a documentarian invested in the trio's ongoing murder mystery case, Deadline reported in October. Selena Gomez also shared on social media that Oscar winner Meryl Streep would be joining the cast in a yet-to-be-announced role.

In addition, Paul Rudd will be returning for the third season to play the late Ben Glenroy, per Varietypresumably in flashback scenes prior to his character's murder. "[Rudd], after making an auspicious entrance into the world of our show at the end of Season 2 as Ben Glenroy, is someone we clearly want to know more about and see in our upcoming Season 3," Hoffman said in a statement. "He is a clear source of many upcoming questions and, as ever with our show, many twists yet to come!"

Of course, the golden trio is also here to stay, but the fates of other characters so far remain uncertain. Season 2 previously debuted multiple big-name guest stars to the series, including Amy Schumer (as herself) and Cara Delevingne (as Mabel's new love interest and mysterious artist, Alice). If we're lucky, their characters—in addition to Cinda Canning, the Arcadia's idolized podcast host we first met in Season 1, played by Tina Fey—will come back for the upcoming season. If not, the show's increasing popularity will hopefully mean new cameos from more of our favorite celebs.

What else has the cast teased for Season 3?

One thing we know so far for certain is that Gomez, Martin, and Short are having a blast working with one another—and we hope their productive dynamic inevitably amounts to a stellar Season 3. "Most professional fun I've had in years," Martin wrote on Twitter, while sharing the official trailer for Season 2.

Gomez also said that she's been happier than ever in this time of her life working with her costars on the show. "I finished season two, I did my cooking show, and now I'm gonna be in the studio until season three," she said to THR last month. "I do feel like right now, in my life, I am just so open, and I love what I do. ... I just am in a really good space right now, and I'm enjoying it.”
