Our Favourite Local Personalities Pay Tribute To The Dads In Their Lives

Kim Lim, Parveen Hassanbhai and Aimee Cheng-Bradshaw share what they love about their dads.

Father's Day Tributes

It's Father's Day—a time to celebrate all the dads and father figures who have shaped us and work hard every day to be role models we look up to and rely on.

Ahead of the special day, we asked local personalities to share what they find most inspiring about their dads, their favourite bonding activities, and more.

Kim Lim

How would you describe your relationship with your dad?

We meet often and we are close. We know how much we mean to each other and at the end of the day, he will always be my pa and I will always be his baby daughter.

What do you find most inspiring about him?

His discipline inspires me the most. I admire the way he brought me and my brother up, and I respect his principles and values.

What is your most precious memory of your dad?

He used to get hashbrowns from Macdonald's and wait for me during recess time. It was during the time when my parents were getting a divorce and this was one way for pa to see me; we would otherwise not be able to meet as I was under my mom’s care on weekdays.

The best advice he has given you?

He taught me to rely on myself and not on others. To never stop learning and progressing; that I must be capable and earn my own keep. This is my constant motivation.

What has your dad taught you about work ethic?

Be fair to others, and they will be loyal and respect you.

Your favourite father-daughter activity?

Pa cooks special noodles for me to eat at his place. I love that it's handmade by him. I also love it when he brings me shopping—he hasn’t done that in a long time. (Pa, hint hint!)

What is one item of clothing you’d steal from your dad’s wardrobe?

I actually stole his sleeping Ralph Lauren tees. It's old, worn out, but super comfy.

What have you learnt about love from your dad?

Sometimes love needs to be tough.

How will you be celebrating Father's Day?

I’m so busy that I don’t even know when Father’s Day is! I’ll probably get him a few cakes as a surprise and treat him to a nice meal.

How would you describe your relationship with your dad?

We got much closer as I got older.

What do you find most inspiring about him?

He has the biggest heart. He always does things with the purest intentions, never needing to show or tell anyone.

What is your most precious memory of your dad?

All our travels together! Especially our charity trips to India and Indonesia.

The best advice he has given you?

Always have empathy, humility and love.

What has your dad taught you about work ethic?

To be honest and always give your 100% in everything you do.

Your favourite father-daughter activity?

Travelling, exploring new places, and visiting people.

What is one fashion item you’d steal from your dad’s wardrobe?

His watch collection!

What have you learnt about love from your dad?

Give and show love to those who need it the most and love unconditionally.

How will you be celebrating Father's Day?

We'll be going for our early morning hike and the whole family will be coming over for a Texas BBQ.

How would you describe your relationship with your dad?

We have a really strong relationship. And although I've been overseas a lot in the past few years and didn't get to see him as much as I'd like, we always make sure to make time for each other during important moments—this past year, especially, while I've been in Singapore.

What do you find most inspiring about him?

His athleticism and the sheer determination that comes with beating personal bests and smashing goals—it amazes me every time and motivates me to keep pushing myself to be stronger and better each day.

What is your most precious memory of your dad?

Back when my sisters and I were little, we’d always go on family beach holidays and my dad would always build incredibly extravagant sandcastles with us—tunnels and everything.

The best advice he has given you?

To grab every opportunity that presents itself because you never know what it might lead to.

What has your dad taught you about work ethic?

As long as I did my best and tried my hardest, that’s something to be proud of regardless of the outcome.

Your favourite father-daughter activity?

We’ve been training for a 10k personal best race together, up until a few weeks back when I injured my leg. It’s always fun and way more motivating when we’re both training for some sort of physical challenge.

What is one item of clothing you’d steal from your dad’s wardrobe?

Not so much clothing but I would 100% steal his fitness gadgets. He’s got this awesome infrared heat lamp which is amazing, and also Normatec Recovery Boots which are so good! I head straight to him whenever I need any type of recovery gadget and he’s got it all.

What have you learnt about love from your dad?

I've learned that love is unconditional and supportive, and that I don’t need to change a single thing about who I am or what I’m passionate about.

How will you be celebrating Father's Day?

It'll be a very chill Father’s Day this year since we can’t go out for a meal; just dinner at home and quality time together.
