Prince Harry Accuses Camilla Of Planting Stories To The Press To "Rehabilitate" Her Image

"Those certain members have decided to get in bed with the devil," he says in an interview with ITV.

Queen Consort Camilla and Prince Harry

In Prince Harry's latest interview for his bombshell memoir, Sparethe royal claims Queen Consort Camilla used the U.K. press to rehabilitate her image in the eye of the British public.

During his 90-minute sit-down with ITV presenter Tom Bradby, Harry discusses accusations included in his memoir that Camilla leaked stories to the press ahead of her marriage to Charles.

In Spare, the prince reveals that he and William held private meetings with Camilla as a way to formally get to know her when their father began seeing her publicly. And in the interview, Harry claims that his stepmother leaked details of those conversations to the press.

"Shortly after our private summits with her she began to play the long game," Harry says, per an audiobook reading of the memoir aired in the ITV interview. "A campaign aimed at marriage and eventually the crown, with Pa’s blessing, we presumed. Stories began to appear everywhere in all the papers, about her private conversation with Willie. Stories that contained pinpoint accurate details, none of which had come from Willie, of course. They could only have been leaked by the one other person present."

At the time of the leak, Camilla's office said that her private secretary was responsible; and the senior aide later resigned. Harry instead claims that his stepmother was complicit in leaking stories.

When Bradby asks the royal about his "consistently scathing" comments about Camilla in the book, Harry responds that "no part of any of the things that I've said are scathing toward any member of my family, especially not my stepmother."

The royal also echoes his claims that members of the royal family have a regular practice of planting negative stories about other members to the press.

"Those certain members have decided to get in bed with the devil to rehabilitate their image. But the moment that rehabilitation comes at the detriment of others, me and other members of my family, then that’s where I draw the line," he says.
