The Rolex Arts Initiative Returns For Its 2016 Edition
The mentors for the 2016 Edition are globally renowned in the fields of architecture, dance, film, literature, music, theatre, and visual arts

Since 2002, the Rolex Arts Initiative has been creating a global network of art production that transcends national and cultural boundaries. On December 6 2015, seven artists who accepted the invitation to mentor a new generation of artists for the 2016 edition of this initiative were announced at a ceremony in Mexico City.
The mentors are, Sir David Chipperfield (architecture), Ohad Naharin (dance), Alfonso Cuarón (film), Mia Couto (literature), Philip Glass (music), Robert Lepage (theatre), and Joan Jonas (visual arts).
“These seven artists have had a profound influence on their disciplines for decades and are held in high esteem by the public and their peers,” said Rebecca Irvin, head of philanthropy at Rolex.
Young artists will receive invaluable one-on-one supervision for a period of one year from these highly acclaimed individuals. This fosters a passing of knowledge and skills from one generation to the next, keeping artistic heritage intact, as well as keeping the spirit of innovation alive in a modern globalised age.
In the past, mentors have ranged from Margaret Atwood (literature), to Martin Scorsese (film), to Sir Anish Kapoor (visual arts).
