The Wright Stuff Festival returns this September to feature three emerging playwrights and their plays developed and mentored under the tutelage of Toy Factory Productions Ltd's artistic directors and veteran playwrights. Out of 45 entries, three were selected to be mentored. The Thieves by Rachel Chin, who was mentored by Jeffrey Tan, focuses on the conflict between environmental activism and capitalist-driven companies that threaten the balance of nature. Mentored by Jeremiah Choy, Vivan Quek's Anthropocene considers the next era and how the main character Shawn struggles to hold on or let go of the world we call home. Finally, Annie Low's The Prisoner, under the mentorship of Alvin Chiam, takes on the issue of fast fashion and the apathetic response of consumers.

Each play promises a delving into not just the difficult to approach issues of climate change and responsibility but also the possibilities that plays continue to have in our society today - as spaces to explore the self and various perspectives.

On his appointment as mentor for the festival, Jeffrey Tan said, "It’s a huge responsibility to be a mentor - I feel the challenge for us as mentors is to find that balance between guiding, facilitating and driving the project. Personally for me, I think seeking that balance is an intricate and important thing to do; where I constantly need to mindfully negotiate with my playwright-mentee and myself."
