Kicking off the season with Pam Oei’s Psychobitch, this production promises some thought-provoking reflection on gender power dynamics and toxic relationships. Written by Amanda Chong, the play revolves around overachieving journalist Anya Samuel, and is written as a one-woman show. As Chong mentions on the company’s website, “Ultimately, this play is about our deeply human desire to be fully known and fully loved, and the toxic circumstances we often tolerate to fulfil that, until we come to know our worth. As Anya examines her life with wit and vulnerability, I hope she gives us permission to laugh at ourselves and, above all, to hope.” Viewers can look forward to both relatable takes and a unique perspective on female emotions.

Being a celebrity means being ready to face getting cancelled and boycotted for the smallest mistake just as quickly as their rise to fame. Ivan Heng’s satirical production G*D Is A Woman, written by Joel Tan, examines this phenomena in a local context. Exploring how Singapore’s cancel culture, censorship and moral outrage play out on the internet, this play is a witty response to societal and political norms in the country. “In writing this play, I’m taking revenge on the killjoys who run our country. But rest assured it’s very equal-opportunity – everyone gets slagged for taking themselves too seriously,” Tan notes on Wild Rice’s media release.
