Zendaya's 'Challengers' Trailer Just Dropped, And Twitter Is Already Justifiably Obsessed

The premiere of the sexy new trailer has shut down the internet

A new Zendaya era is upon us.

The first trailer for the actress’s upcoming new film Challengers premiered today, and the internet quickly lost all cool over the clip. The Luca Guadagnino–directed film—which also stars The Crown’s Josh O’Connor and West Side Story’s Mike Faist—follows the story of a tennis star whose career is cut short by injury and her lifelong love triangle with her husband (Faist) and her former lover and best friend (O’Connor). Per the film’s official logline, the movie will depict “three players who knew each other when they were teenagers as they compete in a tennis tournament to be the world-famous grand slam winner and reignite old rivalries on and off the court.”

One could describe the trailer as sultry, to say the least. The role seems to be easily Zendaya’s most sensual yet, with clips teasing threesomes and a remixed version of Rihanna’s “S&M” soundtracking the trailer. (Considering that Guadagnino also directed 2017’s provocative Call Me by Your Name, this shouldn’t come as as surprise.) Guadagnino described Challengers as a story about a trio of “fucked-up people” at a press call for his 2022 film Bones and All.

“I think those three characters in that movie are beautifully complex and really fucked-up people that I love very much. And a sports film, why not?” the director said. “It’s hyperkinetic, and I do films, so it’s great.”
