With the haute couture shows going on in full swing in Paris, it's only fitting that we take the chance to remind you that there is just one month to go before Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists wraps up at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne.
Showcasing highlights of the brand across three decades, including over 40 haute couture pieces, the exhibition kicks off with a line-up of all the looks featured in its iconic haute couture autumn/winter 1999 collection, Russian Doll—in which Maggie Rizer was dressed by the designers in eight stages as she stood on a revolving platform. Starting off with a frayed sackcloth minidress, you get to see the technical mastery and expertise involved in creating each successive piece, as it culminates in a massive coat weighing over 70kg.

Gowns from the Dutch duo's other collections, ranging from Zen Garden to the most recent haute couture autumn/winter 2016 showing, Vagabonds. It's not just past works you'll be viewing at the exhibit. New works created for Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists include a custom wallpaper featuring the duo's whimsical sketches and illustrations (which you can also purchase at the gift shop, naturally), and giant tapestries of press clippings that they deemed important to their career.
Curated by Thierry-Maxime Loriot, who was behind the blockbuster exhibition The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier, Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists is a must-see for fashion fans, and the perfect precursor to the NGV's upcoming exhibit, The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture, opening on 27 August 2017.
