Collision and convergence: it was the myriad oppositions and contradictions of everyday life that got Elyn Wong of Stolen thinking for spring summer 2017. Inspired by the dichotomies of “simple and complex, fragile and resilient, masculine and feminine”, Wong played out the tension between these qualities through the juxtaposition of different textures and materials. Heavy and soft fabrics were worked together and layered, giving imposing architectural silhouettes a hint of suppleness. Likewise modest, covered-up fronts turn to reveal exposed backs (a signature of Wong's). By finding a harmony in the mashup of seemingly discordant elements, Wong has added yet another level of complexity to her sophisticated design vocabulary.
