Newman Han, Rebecca Lam and Zhou Jun
New designers Newman Han, Zhou Jun and Rebecca Lam made their debut at yesterday’s Star Creation show.
Newman Han's utilitarian collection
South Korean Han, who cited fellow countryman Juun J as his inspiration, conjured a collection of 13 looks that played heavily on the utilitarian theme, layering all forms of parkas and military-inspired gilets over dresses and formal trousers.
Zhou Jun's sportswear-inspired collection
26-year-old Zhou also riffed on utility, but he incorporated sportswear elements in his capsule menswear collection. Heavy-duty coats and jackets edited to include drawstring details made appearances on the catwalk, while the collection’s bold hues jolted the senses. A standout: Shorts that were cut loose and baggy were reminiscent of those pushed out by Raf Simons while he was still creative director at Jil Sander.
Rebecca Lam's symbolic collection
Hong Kong’s Lam rounded off the show by paying tribute to those who aided her in her dream to become a fashion designer. An image of a bridge printed on to an oversized jumper was symbolic of that journey.
