22-year-old Silvia Teh pipped nine other budding designers from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam to take home the coveted prize at this year’s competition.
As Singapore’s representative, the fashion merchandising and marketing student from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts presented a collection that drew references from Japanese art forms and Javanese culture. Nipped waists accentuated by obi-inspired belts, an elegant bow perched on top a sleek black top and dramatic skirts left the deepest impression last evening. Besides the graceful silhouettes, Teh proved she’s also adept at fabric innovation—she layered gossamer organza over printed fabrics for a stunning holographic effect.
