Baz Lurhmann is not only a multi-award winning director, he is visionary, known for his distinct film-making style. His films are saturated with colours, lively characters, vintage glamour and has a certain romanticism about it. His past works like Moulin Rouge!, William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, The Great Gatsby are not only well-respected but also well-loved by his audience.
Now he has taken on the task of creating a short film surrounding the much buzzed-about Erdem X H&M collection. Aptly titled “The Secret Life of Flowers”, the short film has a full cast of actors and models decked head to toe in the collection. The setting is equally breathtaking – a grand mansion set in the countryside. It transports us to a place where it is literally always spring. And with spring, comes new blooms and buds. Hence, the short film focuses on young love and the budding feelings of passion that a new infatuation brings.
“I wanted the film to be like a whole movie. It’s a very modern love story, set in a country house that is full of its own secrets and it’s like a metaphor for our times – it’s harsh out there in the world, but in here, the things that really matter keep growing in an eternal spring,” says Baz Luhrmann.
The film stars upcoming actors Tom Rhys Harries, Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Ruby Dagnall. It revolves around a love triangle that in set in a mysterious mansion. There is beauty, passion and betrayal. Ultimately, a jam-packed 4 minutes. It’s both a feast for eyes (clearly) and ears as the film debuts an exclusive new track by Years & Years, “Hypnotised”.
