BAZAAR Exclusive! Maria Grazia Chiuri Unveils Dior Ballet Costumes In Rome
The artistic director created a total of 16 looks
Last week in Rome, Maria Grazia Chiuri presented her original costumes for the Nuit Blanche ballet, part of a multi-part dance performance dedicated to influential Academy Award-nominated American composer Philip Glass at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. The event drew a host of celebrities including fashion influencer Chiara Ferragni, who was given a special tour of Rome by Grazia Chiuri herself.
The Dior artistic director collaborated with dancer Eleonora Abbagnato, who stars in the performance, on the exclusive designs which feature a series of black and white tulle worn over powdery hued skirts. Like Christian Dior in his time, dance has been a lifelong passion for Maria Grazia Chiuri, who sees the art form, in all its variations, as a liberating gesture expressed through body movement.
Last September, Grazia Chiuri collaborated with the choreographer Sharon Eyal on a performance that punctuated her Spring/Summer 2019 ready-to-wear collection dedicated to dance and to several pioneers in the field, such as Isadora Duncan and Loïe Fuller.
The Nuit Blanche ballet dancers will also appear in a new Dior advertising campaign, further celebrating the fashion house’s strong connection between ballet and fashion.
