Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri gave the people exactly what they wanted from a Christian Dior fashion show—grandiosity and unapologetic femininity.

The Christian Dior Cruise 2021 show was held at the Piazza del Duomo in Lecce, a small town in Puglia, Italy—where Chiuri’s father is from. Through her collection and fantastical display of it, she gave people hope for better times, and an opportunity to dream all while spotlighting the intricate and marvellous works of craftspeople from Southern Italy. And what makes this collection more spectacular is that fact it was all actualised during quarantine.

“During this period, I sought to give collective efforts a new dimension. Despite the disadvantages of distance, bringing a different perspective to our daily lives has given us strength and imagination,” said Chiuri.

The noughties aesthetic underlined the collection, comprising pinafore dresses, blanket-fringe skirts and hand-knit sweaters. Fabrics from the Le Costantine Foundation were also used to create a series of jackets such as the emblematic Bar.
