Chinese couturier Guo Pei rose to international fame when Barbadian singer, actress and businesswoman Rihanna wore her iconic ‘Yellow Queen’ outfit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in 2015. Since then, the world has been left curious about the obscure dressmaker—until now. Singapore’s Asian Civilisations museum collaborated with Guo Pei for its first-ever fashion exhibition Guo Pei: Chinese Art and Couture. The exhibition also sets the tone for their theme Season of Chinese Art, which will guide the museum for the next year.
The exhibition displays all of Guo Pei’s most exquisite masterpieces and highlights the inspirations behind them. In this video, Guo Pei walks us through the exhibition and talks about her favourite pieces and shared personal anecdotes behind the conception of the magnificent garments.
Guo Pei: Chinese Art and Couture is open till 15 September 2019 at the Asian Civilisations Museum. For more information, please visit www.acm.org.sg.
