Riccardo Tisci has left his indelible stamp at Burberry since he assumed the role of artistic director. Case in point: The Olympia bag that is now a key feature of the British label. And just recently, Tisci revealed the latest campaign for the Olympia bag starring Kendall Jenner, FKA Twigs and Shygirl.
“I was thinking about creating the perfect form of a handbag—something that could capture the essence of femininity,” said Tisci in a press statement. Similarly, he wanted to celebrate these three personalities who embody the power and beauty of feminine energy. “These women are amazingly talented and confident, and have a natural fierceness and determination to carve their own paths, each freely expressing their originality through their creativity.”.
Set against a minimalistic backdrop of marble and Burberry beige, the campaign turns the spotlight on the powerful women who showcase the versatility and sculptural form of the Olympia. The bag, which takes inspiration from the distinctive architecture of Kensington Olympia in London, first appeared at Burberry’s fall/winter 2020 show.
The Olympia is a true testament to Burberry’s expert craftsmanship. Made in Italy from the highest quality leather, the signature bag is hand-shaped and painted by master artisans. It also features a hand-moulded, curved silhouette with gold or palladium-plated hardware engraved with the house’s timeless logo—a modern classic that will stand the test of time.
World Of Olympia Pop-Ups
Burberry is celebrating this signature bag with an immersive ‘World of Olympia’ pop-in at its ION Orchard store from May 24 2021. The installation features sweeping curves lined with statues and spaces shaped to resemble the arc of the Olympia.
In addition to the bag’s classic colourway of warm tan, black, burgundy, pale blue, warm sand and deep orange, the pop-up offers exclusive shades such as marsh green, blue topaz and marigold. Mini versions in selected hues are also available at the pop-up with an edition number engraved inside each bag.
