This year, Louis Vuitton is creating an extended Tambour line with Tambour VVV, a collection inspired by their iconic advertisement from the mid-60s. The advertisement read “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez avec les valises Louis Vuitton”—it’s where the triple V signature originated from—and now the iconic symbol has been incorporated into a timepiece for the first time. Translating to “Fly, Sail, Travel”, it has been used by Louis Vuitton’s men’s artistic director Kim Jones as a running theme in his menswear shows, and is intertwined with the DNA of the men’s collections since.
The collection features five suave models: a steel GMT, a steel or 18-carat pink gold chronograph and a Spin Time GMT in 18-carat white gold or pink gold. The Tambour VVV Spin Time GMT model also features the exclusive Spin Time movement patented in 2010, while the GMT model shows the minutes on the chronograph, naturally pointing the triple V downwards. All the models are set on supple grey ombré calf leather bracelets embossed with the triple V—first introduced in the FW15 leather goods collection—enhanced with a hand-crafted patina. As far as inaugural collections go, this one is the epitome of European luxury that pays tribute to Louis Vuitton’s heritage.
