Baifern Pimchanok Is A Class Act

They say that every journey begins with a single step. For Thai actress Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul, this is true of her foray into the entertainment industry, both literally and figuratively. Better known by her stage name Baifern, the rising star first gained recognition while modelling school shoes in sixth grade—an assignment that opened the doors to casting opportunities that helped propel the trajectory of her career.

Then in 2010, a high school rom-com entitled Crazy Little Thing Called Love came along. Baifern was cast in the lead role, playing a bookworm with a crush on her attractive and popular senior who (spoiler alert) eventually finds her fairytale ending. Following the movie’s debut, Crazy Little Thing Called Love became a commercial success in Thailand, scored high viewership ratings with audiences in the Philippines, and was screened at the 2011 Shanghai International Film Festival, making Baifern and her co-star Mario Maurer recognisable faces in Asia.

While the actress has gone on to explore a diverse range of roles since her breakthrough performance, including starring in a martial arts action flick and a horror anthology, rom-coms make up a large part of her filmography—Baifern has reunited with Maurer twice on the silver screen after Crazy Little Thing Called Love, in roles that fall into the aforementioned genre. Of her favourite roles to play, Baifern said, “I have always been drawn to portraying diverse characters. While some may assume that complex and dramatic roles are the most fulfilling, I find joy in embodying simple characters that bring happiness.”

“Through acting, we have the opportunity to step into someone else’s shoes, immerse ourselves in their thoughts and emotions, and make decisions as they would. Each character we portray allows us to expand our understanding of different perspectives and human experiences.”

Beyond acting, Baifern also expresses interest in taking on a directorial role in the future. Having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in filmography from Srinakharinwirot University, she hopes that “one day you may see me fulfilling that dream and bringing my creative vision to life on the big screen.”

The actress has a notable presence online, with over 12 million followers on Instagram, and travels the world attending movie premieres and shows at Fashion Week. Yet, despite her success, she comes across as refreshingly candid, with a naturally bubbly disposition.

This personality trait comes through on her YouTube channel, FERNZONE ChannelRaking in hundreds of thousands of views on average, with over 450,000 subscribers and counting, Baifern’s content offers her viewers an intimate look into what it is like to be a Thai star on the world stage. On the platform, Baifern has taken her fans behind the scenes of her filming assignments, her globetrotting travels for work and leisure, and the nitty-gritty happenings of her personal life. From renovating her dream home, going through her beauty routine, and sharing her school grades on report cards, her videos have covered them all.

Baifern first started FERNZONE Channel with her manager Fern Suparada Sunthornnate as a way to “connect with our fans and create a platform where we can share our memories and experiences, hoping to bring some relief and positivity to everyone’s lives.” The actress’ camaraderie with members of her team has endeared her to fans, and often makes for genuine laugh-out-loud moments—expect unfiltered responses and bloopers included throughout the runtime—in her vlogs.

Now, at 31, Baifern is at the top of her game. Alongside starring roles in shows with some of Thailand’s biggest names, she was also signed as a brand ambassador with the Spanish fashion house LOEWE earlier this year. The actress mentions her deep admiration for creative director Jonathan Anderson and his work. “I feel a sense of worth and purpose when I interact with Jonathan’s luxurious designs, as every intricate detail is thoughtfully considered. Holding or wearing one of Jonathan’s creations fills me with immense joy and pride,” she explains.

When asked to describe her personal style, she says: “I am drawn to items that may appear ordinary at first glance but hold a special significance. I find beauty in the small details of clothing and value pieces that are well-loved and frequently used.” This translates to her wardrobe essentials: “A white t-shirt, to me, exudes a sense of effortless layering and can easily be incorporated into daily wear. Light-coloured jeans are my go-to choice as I prefer the worn-in, vintage look they provide. A cosy cardigan is a staple for someone like me who tends to feel cold easily, adding both comfort and style to any outfit.”

And for fans who might be curious as to which LOEWE bag she would carry for the rest of her life, Baifern shares that it is “the Squeeze Bag—a versatile and practical accessory that I can effortlessly carry with me every day.”
