Exquisite, vibrant and filled with splendour—the latest high jewellery collections from the world’s biggest maisons, which debuted during the recent Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2024 Fashion Week in Paris, were truly breathtaking.

Be it the continuation of last year’s high jewellery collections from the likes of Louis Vuitton or the new couture-inspired creations imagined and realised by Chaumet and Boucheron, every piece has a story worth telling. Below, we break down the themes behind the collections and the jewels that caught our magpie eyes.

DEEP TIME CHAPTER II

The second instalment of the Maison’s fifth high jewellery collection—Deep Time—continues to tell the tale of the Earth’s geological history, connections between all living things and the constant evolution we go through.

This chapter welcomes 50 one-of-a-kind pieces that are set across 10 themes such as Seed, Plants, Flower, Bones and Drift, as well as new interpretations with the most extraordinary gemstones.

The theme—Symbiosis—is particularly mesmerising. It takes inspiration from the intricate forms of fungi and mycelium that enthralled the artistic director for watches and jewellery, Francesca Amfitheatrof. The multi-strand necklace mimics fungi clusters through a myriad of spinels in pinks, purples and pastel blue, and the adorable Bombé pave diamond and LV Monogram Star mushroom motifs.

LE VOYAGE RECOMMENCÉ CHAPTER 3

Similar to the previous two chapters, Cartier’s artisans and designers have combined the Maison’s signature style with global influences, resulting in what the brand dubs “World Jewellery”.

“Working with lines, volumes, colour palettes, inspiration from nature and world cultures, we explore so many territories to push the boundaries of creation and discover new horizons. Like a journey that is repeated over and over again, continually drawing on the inexhaustible sources of Cartier inspiration,” said Jacqueline Karachi, director of high jewellery creation.

Two turquoise cabochons, one flawlessly blue and the other streaked with brown veins, are the soul of the Yfalos necklace, which draws inspiration from the sea and sky. The ribbed coral beads and emeralds enhance the mysterious allure of the necklace while the underlining curves add motion paved in diamonds that resemble the glistening ocean waves. The stunning necklace also has matching earrings that are equally show-stopping.

UN AIR DE CHAUMET

The first high jewellery collection of 2024 by Chaumet depicts the grace and agility of birds as they take to the skies while paying homage to the founder of the Maison, which was appointed as Empress Josephine’s official jeweller, and his son, who shared the sovereign’s fascination with these creatures.

Comprising of four movements and presented as duos, the Un Air de Chaumet collection features golden feathers and parures putting on a real show—fluttering in the air like a ballet and ethereal aerobatics mixed into one.

The magnificent Plumes d’or tiara is the centrepiece of the collection, featuring brushed rose gold and diamond-set white gold feather alternating with one another while a 2,30-carat pear-shaped diamond sits in the middle. The most impressive aspect of this tiara is the transformable design, which allows it to turn into two brooches and a pair of dramatic ear cuffs.

HISTOIRE DE STYLE COLLECTION

Boucheron’s creative director, Claire Choisne, is no stranger when it comes to taking a whole new approach to the Maison’s high jewellery. This time, she infused the design sensibilities of high fashion into ceremonial ornaments with a monochromatic aesthetic through rock crystals and diamonds.

Inspired by elements of haute couture such as bows, knits, grosgrain and pompoms, the 24-piece collection is sophisticated yet supple, while sporting subtle nods to the founder’s business specialising in silk and lace in the early 1800s.

The Noeud set appears minimalistic at first glance, but it is actually a work of art that took over 2,600 labour hours to complete. The pièce de résistance is the necklace, which plays with texture and light through the 435-frosted baguette-cut rock crystals fitted on a white gold frame and brilliant diamond accents on the edges.

DIOR DÉLICAT

Dior’s heritage in haute couture comes alive with this new collection that applies the principles of high dressmaking with high jewellery. Artistic director of Dior Joailleries, Victoire de Castellane, united the motifs of the Galons Dior collection with the elegance of the Dearest Dior line, which culminated into pieces that emulate the luxurious fabrics found at the atelier.

Much like couture, the collection follows and moulds to the natural curvatures of the body, intersecting, intertwining and overlapping with one another to create the perfect fit. The almost-invisible settings give the rubies, emeralds, blue sapphires, rubellites and tanzanites the chance to shine gloriously.

Of course, Monsieur Dior’s passion for nature is also highlighted throughout the collection, especially the white gold set—a necklace, a cuff bracelet, a double ring and a pair of earrings—punctuated with various cuts of diamonds that evoke a vegetal quality.
