Having dreamt of being either an artist or a scientist as a child, Eugene Lim found the ability to express creativity while experimenting and discovering that these worlds collided in his previous job as a fashion editor. “Be bold, be brave, and don’t be caught up in what people think,” he says when asked for tips on honing his adventurous personal style. The most important sense to him? The sense of sight, because in the words of André Leon Talley: “My eyes are starving for beauty.”

ART FORM
“I see clothes as a form of sculpture. I enjoy experimenting with different ways of moulding them into forms that I find interesting—layering and decontextualising garments into silhouettes that I find the most joy in.”

“Growing up, my grandpa was somebody I looked up to. He has an air of coolness that I could not comprehend. I’m glad I was able to honour him by casting him as a model for one of my past works.”
