In true Pierpaolo Piccioli style, the Valentino fall/winter 2020 collection was a celebration of humanity, beauty, inclusivity and diversity. When lockdowns and social distancing made it impossible to shoot the campaign in the usual manner involving large productions, Piccioli quickly pivoted. He reached out to a huge group of his closest friends and #ValentinoEmpathy was born. The designer decided to put empathy at the heart of this campaign because it is the one emotion that shines through the brightest in this age of social distancing.

Ranging from artists to actors to supermodels, the cast includes the likes of Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Frances McDormand, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anwar Hadid, Adut Akech and more than a dozen others. They were either photographed by themselves or a loved one they were quarantined with. The result was a set of beautifully raw portraits that spoke of both the human connection and the dream of fashion that doesn’t disappear even in these difficult times.

All the talents have also agreed to donate their fees to the fight against the pandemic with 1 million Euros going to the Lazzaro Spallanzani Hospital in Rome, the Italian hub leading the fight against COVID-19 based in the Maison’s hometown.
