As one of the most notable menswear events of the fashion calendar winds down to its penultimate day, French luxury House Givenchy and Japanese sports-fashion brand Onitsuka Tiger have released a sneaker collaboration, in a first for both brands – while Givenchy has never before partnered with an external sneaker manufacturer on a global scale, this also marks Onitsuka Tiger’s first collaboration with a luxury fashion House in the 70 years since the brand was founded.

The sneakers were introduced on the Pitti Uomo runway in Florence, where guest-brand Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller showed her first standalone menswear show, including the new Mexico  66™ GDX sneakers. Based off Onitsuka Tiger’s widely recognisable Nippon Made Mexico 66™ sneakers, the collaboration offers two different styles for both men and women: a white pair with Onitsuka Tiger’s hallmark lines paired with ‘GIVENCHY’ lettering, and a black pair made striking with bright red detailing. Both styles feature a rear tab emblazoned with ‘Givenchy – Onitsuka Tiger’.

Unexpected as it may seem, Waight Keller fans might have seen this collaboration coming a mile away, since the designer is often seen sporting the original Mexico 66 style. For both brands, the new sneakers represent an intermingling of culture and technique, bringing together Japanese leather-working expertise and French couture savoir-faire for a well-finished, covetable final product sure to be snapped up by sneaker-heads around the world.

The Onitsuka Tiger x Givenchy sneakers for men and women are priced at S$850, available in the Givenchy Paragon store and online on givenchy.com.
