Ralph Lauren is one of those classic Americana brands that speak to the American dream. Lauren, who's prolific career in fashion humbly began in men's tie manufacturing at 28 years-old, has since gone on to create a multi-billion dollar empire, with his Polo shirts at the forefront of his success. What's admirable about his success is that he's consistently been able to elevate his brand and keep up with the changing times and keep it contemporary by responding to his consumers' demands.

And now, Ralph Lauren is one of the latest luxury fashion brands to offer gender neutral clothings. Their new Pride capsule collection, #RLPride, and accompanying campaign is dedicated to spotlighting and celebrating the LQBTQIA+ community. It's a five-piece gender-neutral collection for adults and children, featuring the iconic Ralph Lauren logo reimagined in rainbow stripes.

The American fashion label has enlisted the help of prominent queer icons such as Olympic medalist, and activist Gus Kenworthy; ballet dancer Harper Watters; writer, comedian, and actress Patti Harrison; photographer and model Jacob Bixenman; actress Josie Totah, for their campaign. Each of whom, represent a colour in the rainbow which symbolises serenity, life, healing, nature, spirit and sunlight.

The brand's iconic Polo shirt, synonymous with American fashion, has kept itself modern and relevant, even in the face of the rising streetwear aesthetic. Their Earth Polo collection, made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and dyed through a process that requires zero water, launched in lieu of Earth Day, is a perfect example of the brand's contemporaneity.

For decades, Ralph Lauren's Polo shirt has been used to help global philanthropic efforts generate a positive social impact from breast cancer research to global disaster relief and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community.

To some, the brand's latest capsule collection and promotional campaigns may seem like a far cry from their usual offerings, but if you think about, we should have seen this coming, After all, gender neutral dressing is the future of fashion.

For those wondering if this is yet another publicity stunt by a fashion conglomerate or an attempt at allying with the queer community to boost sales, we're glad to report that "one hundred percent of the purchase price from the sale of each graphic tee and 50% of the purchase price from the sale of each Polo shirt, hoodie, hat, and tote will be donated to Stonewall Community Foundation, benefitting an international network of LGBTQIA+ organisations."
