Review Of Hermes Fall Winter 2021 Collection
Luxury and comfort found equal placing in the French luxury brand’s new collection.

For Hermès Fall Winter 2021, creative director Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski utilises the format of a live stream to stage a show that also featured outstanding dance choreography that spanned three cities. The collection, named ‘Triptych’, starts In New York with a dance performance choreographed by Madeline Hollander that oozes New York sass. Then, the screen pans to a TV screen that reads ‘Paris 2:38 PM’, signalling the start of the fashion show. The show then closes with a dance performance in front of a live audience in Shanghai, choreographed by Gu Jiani.

The performances reflect Fall Winter 2021’s confidence and ease and the clothes are occasion-neutral and trans-seasonal. Sporty short jackets in Twillaine or fringed leather are thrown over butter soft leather pants, easy smock dresses are rendered in a range of neutral colour as well as the brand’s signature red. Other highlights include a Canadian tuxedo, fur-collared coat and an equestrian-inspired wrap skirt.

This collection is a study of intrinsic luxury that empowers the wearer with confidence. This comes through clearly via the rich fabrics and understated details, where seemingly straightforward jackets and pants are decorated with fine nappa leather, and dresses — upon closer inspection — are finely beaded to give a three dimensional effect.
