Three Cubitus watches make their debut as references 5821 and 5822, both featuring cases that are a whopping 45mm-wide. While it definitely serves major wrist presence, the height of the cases are only 8.3mm, allowing it to sit nicely on the wrist.

The 5821 reference consists of two models—a steel variant with an olive green dial and a two-tone steel and rose gold version. These watches combine a square case with rounded edges on a bracelet that feature the manufacture’s style codes with alternating finishes across components such as vertical satin-brushed on the bezel and polish on the bezel chamfer and the central bracelet links.

The steel watch sports an olive green dial while the two-tone has a blue dial, both of which are horizontally embossed with white and rose gold applied baton-style hour markets and round baton hands respectively. Both watches are powered by the self-winding 26-330 calibre with sweep seconds, date at the 3 o’clock and stop-seconds functions.

Moving on to the piecé de résistance: the 5822P fitted with a navy blue composite material strap, otherwise known as Cubitus Instantaneous Grand Date, Day and Moon Phases. This platinum timepiece features the same design elements as the 5821 reference, with the exception of the dial that has the date windows at 12 o’clock and the grand date indicator in a double aperture format with day by hand, moon phases and small seconds.

The 5822 is packed with technical functions that require a copious amount of energy but the manufacture needed to blend elegance with performance. To achieve this, Patek Philippe created a new ultra-thin movement—self-winding 240 PS CI J LU, which endows the timepiece with an instantaneous jump calendar mechanism for the grand-date function to avoid any time lag.

Patek Philippe has also designed matching cufflinks for all three watches based on the respective dials to emphasise the sporty-chic design of the Cubitus.

Although the anticipated release of the Cubitus was cut short due to leaks, there is still a lot to discover and love about this new Patek Philippe model that will definitely find its way into any discerning collector’s trove.
