There's no right or wrong way to handle the wild, uncertain world we're living in. But if a matching mommy-and-me look can elicit a smile, then we're here for it. Even better if it's from the new designer collaboration between Altuzarra and Maisonette. The New York designer—and new dad—has partnered with the luxury children's boutique for his first foray into childrenswear.

"My husband and I welcomed our daughter four months ago, and quite simply, I became interested in childrenswear while we were preparing for her arrival," Joseph Altuzarra tells BAZAAR.com.

"Over the years, my friends have occasionally asked me to make their daughters' outfits that would coordinate with their Altuzarra pieces. I've always thought it was such a charming and sweet idea, and it makes the Altuzarra pieces feel that much more special. When I started thinking about partnering with another brand to realize this idea for a wider audience, Maisonette was the only brand I wanted to speak to."

The single matching set is one of Altuzarra's hero looks; offered in girls sizes 4Y through 12Y online exclusively, the Barkers Knit Dress is, of course, available in a matching style for moms, called the Woodbine Dress.

"When we were looking at the collection, this particular style stood out to me, because it was playful and fun, and felt quite emotional. But it also has an ease that makes it perfect for a lot of different occasions: day, work, cocktail, a summer dinner."

Fingers crossed the knit must-have is only the beginning piece in a new category for the designer. "I think there is a lot of potential there, and I am particularly drawn to the mommy-and-me idea—it's such a wonderful way of connecting with your child, and creating a bond through clothes."

But we still have one question: Will Altuzarra himself get in on the matching game? "I sure hope so!" he says. Someone start the Insta account. We think it will be a good one.
