Nicki Minaj Is Pregnant with Her First Child

Nicki Minaj is going to be a mom.

The rapper, 37, is expecting her first child with husband Kenneth Petty, announcing the news on Instagram this morning. This was no ordinary baby announcement, however. Minaj blasted the news with a revealing portrait of herself in an ornate bikini while holding her baby bump. The rapper layered necklaces and body chains over her crystal-covered top, donned pearl-studded platform Lucite heels, and wore bright yellow curls for the shoot. Keeping her flashy announcement short and sweet, Minaj simply captioned the photo, "#Preggers đź’›."

She followed up the post with another extravagant shot from her maternity photo shoot, this time featuring herself in a blue wig, a candy-coloured two-piece covered in ribbons and beaded tassels, and thigh-high stockings.

Minaj, born Onika Tanya Maraj, quietly wed Petty, 42, last October after about a year of dating. She first broke her wedding news with an Instagram video revealing their set of bride-and-groom hats and mugs. That week, she also changed her Twitter bio to "Mrs. Petty."

"Nicki feels so blessed right now," a source tells BAZAAR.com. "She wanted to become a mom for so long—she prayed hard—and now it’s happening. She’s just the happiest woman right now. And so excited for the day she gets to meet him or her."

Minaj has previously spoken about starting a family. "I love children. I'm not going to put that off for much longer," she told Wonderland magazine in 2018. Even four years prior, she was talking about what motherhood would look like for her. "I wonder if I'm going to be one of those women who balances my child with a career," she told Complex in 2014. "I always said, 'When I have my baby, it's going to be all about my baby.' I don't want the child feeling like they don't have all of my attention, so I always said, 'I'm going to take a little break.' But we'll see."
