Blackpink Drops a New Video for Their Single-Girl Anthem, “Lovesick Girls”

Blackpink’s debut LP, The Album, is finally here—and so is a brand-new music video. The K-pop girl group released new visuals for their track “Lovesick Girls” at midnight, and it’s just as colourful as it is emotional. Cycling through bright outfits and romantic scenarios, the quartet sing about owning their independence through heartbreak.
“We were born to be alone / But why we still looking for love,” goes the hook.

The premise may seem somber, but with its high-energy vibe, the song hits a more empowering note. The sound is more pop anthem than trap-pop banger, à la “How You Like That” or “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” showcasing the band’s range.
“Didn’t wanna be a princess, I’m priceless / A prince not even on my list,” Jennie says in one line, making a convincing case that “Lovesick Girls” may be the single-girl anthem for fall.

This video—complete with in-sync choreography and dramatic scenes—arrives a little more than a month after the sugary visuals for “Ice Cream,” the group’s collaboration with Selena Gomez. Like “Lovesick Girls,” the previously released “Ice Cream” and “How You Like That” also appear on The Album. The group has a song with Cardi B, too, titled “Bet You Wanna.”

“When we first heard Cardi B’s verse on our song, I think we were all kind of blown away,” Rosé said, teasing the track on YouTube’s new show, Released.
Soon, Blackpink will release a Netflix documentary, Light Up the Sky, on October 14, which follows their sudden rise to fame. The group also shared previously unseen, behind-the-scenes footage before their “Lovesick Girls” video drop.
