Kristen Stewart Is Starring in Lesbian Christmas Rom-Com, Happiest Season

"I think I've wished to see a gay Christmas rom-com my whole life," Stewart said of the movie

    Kristen Stewart is about to bring some festive joy into our lives.

    In a new feature by People magazine, the cast and crew of Happiest Season offered a first look at the Christmas romantic comedy which focuses on a lesbian couple that returns home for the holidays. Stewart plays Abby, a woman who is set to propose to her girlfriend at Christmas. Meanwhile, Mackenzie Davis plays Stewart's love interest, Harper, a woman with conservative parents who is yet to come out to her family. Hijinks understandably ensue.

    As Stewart explained, "I love when a holiday movie makes you long for an idea of home, but also examines how hilarious and hard reality at home can be sometimes." Directed by actress, director, and writer, Clea DuVall, the movie also stars Aubrey Plaza, Dan Levy, Burl Moseley, Mary Steenburgen, Victor Garber, Alison Brie, and co-writer Mary Holland.

    Of the gay festive film, Stewart told People, "I think I've wished to see a gay Christmas rom com my whole life... I'm so happy and proud of Clea for bringing this into the world."

    As for her experience helping to create the romantic movie, Stewart revealed, "We couldn’t have had a better more loving pack of weirdos supporting each other on this one. Had an absolute blast."

    Meanwhile, director DuVall explained, "I’m a huge fan of Christmas movies, but I had never seen my story represented... Happiest Season felt like a great opportunity to tell a universal story from a new perspective."

    Happiest Season is due in theaters on November 25, 2020.
