From cheese boards to dessert platters, there’s nothing foodies love more than putting a handful of ingredients on wooden boards and taking artistic shots of their handiwork for the ‘gram. But there’s one version in particular that everyone seems to be going crazy over – the pancake platter.

As the latest food trend sweeps the brunch scene, photos of intricately arranged platters of pancakes next to chopped fruit and other condiments have been doing the rounds on social media. Much like smashed avocado, it appears the trend first took off in Australia and is the perfect low-key option for an at-home brunch with family and friends.

The best thing about pancake platters is they are super easy to create. First, you’ll need to whip up a batch or two of your favourite pancakes – from buckwheat to vanilla cinnamon buttermilk, and even matcha, there are a number of varieties to choose from. If you’re feeling creative, you can even cut your pancakes into cute shapes, like stars or hearts using a cookie cutter.

Next, fill some bowls with your favourite toppings. Think whipped cream, maple syrup, butter, Nutella and fruit jams. You can include fresh fruit and protein-rich add-ons like scrambled eggs, or mouth-watering bacon in order to round out the meal. But of course, the centrepiece remains a set of golden brown pancakes, and the more artfully you can arrange them, the better.

To help wash down your delicious pancakes and complete your brunch spread, opt for a refreshing bottle of Moscato d'Asti or Limoncello which has been chilled in the freezer. For the little ones, you can’t beat a mimosa mocktail, which is a mixture of orange juice and sparkling water.

Bon appétit!
