Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have ended their six-year relationship.

Entertainment Tonight reported last night that the pop superstar and the British actor quietly broke up "a few weeks ago," with a source explaining to the outlet that the breakup was amicable.

"It was not dramatic," the insider told the outlet. "The relationship had just run its course. It's why [Alwyn] hasn't been spotted at any shows."

People also independently confirmed the news through a source close to the pair. Neither Swift nor Alwyn have directly commented as of Sunday morning.

The surprise breakup news comes following a People report last month, when a friend of the pair told the outlet that Alwyn would be traveling with Swift when he could and planned to be at her concerts. "Joe will travel with her when he can. They are great together. Joe is super supportive of her career," the source said.

The "Lavender Haze" singer and the Conversations With Friends actor started dating in late 2016, and the pair have purposely kept the details of their relationship private over the years. When asked about swirling engagement rumors in a Wall Street Journal interview in April 2022, Alwyn coyly answered, "The truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn't say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn't say."

While the pair have mostly kept the details of their relationship out of the press, many fans have speculated that Swift has dedicated many songs to her and Alwyn's romance, including some that have been part of her Eras Tour setlist. The actor has also been credited under the pseudonym William Bowery on multiple Taylor songs over the years, including "Sweet Nothing" on her recent studio album Midnights.

Swift herself last opened up about their relationship last October ahead of the release of Midnights, when discussing the inspiration behind her track "Lavender Haze."

"I happened upon the phrase 'lavender haze' when I was watching Mad Men," the singer explained in an Instagram video. "I looked it up because I thought it sounded cool. And it turns out that it's a common phrase used in the '50s where they would describe being in love. If you're in the 'lavender haze,' then that meant you were in that all-encompassing love glow. And I thought that was really beautiful."

"I guess, theoretically, when you’re in the 'lavender haze,' you'll do anything to stay there," she continued, before touching on her love life. "And not let people bring you down off of that cloud. I think that a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just like 'public figures,' because we live in the era of social media, and if the world finds out if you're in love with somebody they're going to weigh in on it. Like my relationship for six years we've had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it. So this song is about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff."
