For sweeping views of the harbour and the Peak, and great international cuisine, park yourself in this world-class hotel right in the heart of Hong Kong’s Admiralty district.

Reading by the window on the 31st floor suite of JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong with the hills of Hong Kong on my left and the bustling harbour on my right, sums up the joy of my visit to Hong Kong. Post Covid, the streets of Hong Kong are markedly different. Overt shows of wealth and luxury brands have morphed into more casual athleisure wear with most Hong Kongers sporting On sneakers and Lululemon togs. Designer bags are still being carried, with Loewe being the brand of choice.

Staying at JW Marriott is a luxurious refuge from the packed streets of Hong Kong. Located in the heart of Admiralty, the hotel brand, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, represents a trusted chain of hotels that is attuned to the needs of both the business traveller and luxury holidaymaker.

JW Marriott exudes understated chic. A serene sense of home permeates our suite with muted colour tones, electric-controlled full-length drapes, and to-die-for views of both the harbour and the Peak. Creature comforts include a separate dining and sitting room, and a generous-sized bedroom that delivers space—a premium commodity in Hong Kong.

It has a Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant, Man Ho, a seafood casual restaurant Fish Bar on the pool deck, JW Café for breakfast with hand-made dumplings, and an exclusive executive lounge where breakfast, tea and cocktails are served daily.

Located in Pacific Place, it sits on top of the MTR Admiralty Station, which is conveniently connected to get you across Hong Kong and Kowloon. If something more local grabs your fancy, the double decker trams plough to Causeway Bay and Central right from your doorstep.

The star attraction at the hotel is the Michelin-starred Man Ho headed by chef Jason Tang. The interiors of the restaurant are opulent with modern chandeliers and exceptional service. From frog legs to congee with rabbitfish and mandarin peel, Tang takes dining to another haute level.

We feasted on an eight-course dinner menu. My favourite was the shredded duck soup with fish maw—the dish was a delicious melange of flavours and textures. It was aromatic, delicate and with the right amount of crunch. Tang’s steamed garoupa with sansho pepper sauce has an unexpected spicy kick while his stewed beancurd with mushroom and bamboo pith was amazingly healthy and tasty at the same time.

For those who love their seafood, you can head to the recently revamped poolside eatery, Fish Bar. The cool vibe of the restaurant is matched by a selection of fresh seafood dishes from black cod to toothfish—all delicately pan fried with a crispy skin and topped with sweet potato. All-in-all, a lovely luncheon experience.

If some much needed TLC is needed, a hop across the harbour to Kowloon will bring you to Bliss Spa located on the 72nd floor of W Hong Kong. With a myriad of treatments offered, we opted for the Japanese healing stone therapy massage, a wonderful way to unwind and recharge one’s worn muscles from pounding the glitzy shopping malls in Hong Kong. The 70-minute, signature treatment uses different sized and shaped natural volcano healing soapstones to ease muscle tension. You can finish off in style with a Himalayan salt thermal sauna, a dip in a vitality massage pool and an aromatherapy steam bath—all guaranteed to take away the stress of urban city life.
