This Boutique Hotel In New York Is Giving Modern-Day Halston Vibes
The Manner opens its doors in SoHo to those who appreciate maximalist style.

Tucked away not far from New York’s buzzy Spring street in SoHo stands the newly opened boutique hotel, The Manner. Discreet and looking more like an apartment building from the outside, there is no flashy sign on its façade, only smartly-dressed doormen and a slew of stylish guests sipping aperitivo al fresco.

Mosaic style wall and gold sconce at The Apartment in The Manner
Upon entering the lobby, I was welcomed by an astonishing retro water feature by the check-in desk along with a sleek golden fireplace across the chic marbled floors. The whole mise-en-scène brings to mind ’70s New York, reminiscent of Halston’s heyday. I could imagine him being imperious to his coterie of muses, the Halstonettes, all decked out in their fabulous outfits just loitering and sashaying around the cosy setting.

The Manner Deluxe Corner King Suite with yellow wall, plush corner sofa and red lacquer credenza
In my suite, the ‘fabulousity’ continues. This time, it’s more of a riot of colours that come together to form a pleasing whole. The wall is painted in an eye-popping shade of shiny saffron with big mirrors all around the room, with a red lacquered credenza, plus glitzy gold-accented tchotchkes—yet, the feel is more fashionably maximal rather than over-the-top. Add to that a custom mid-century modern inspired sofa and seats, a marble coffee table over the plush carpet, and you have the sexy A Single Man interior that Tom Ford would approve of.

The rich decor of the Suite bathroom's vanity area
The Manner marks the debut of a new brand from Standard International, the company responsible for the famous The Standard, and the dazzling decor is the result of a collaboration between Milanese architect and interior designer Hannes Peer and Verena Haller, Global Head of Design & Creative Services at The Lifestyle Group, Hyatt. Meanwhile, the one-of-a-kind service makes everything fuss-free with a swift check-in process (where they kept my passport and credit card details upon reservation), thus not having a single bill presented or signed for throughout my stay. Now, that’s what I would call a home away from home, indeed.
