We're mad about matte, it's no secret. So when French makeup artist Elsa Durrens and long-time friend of the house of Chanel came to town, we just had to do a photo shoot. Here, she paints a portrait of strength and sensuality with a palette of Chanel mattes—all rich with plush pigments and intense quietude—from two collections: Apotheosis, Le Mat De Chanel and Rouge Allure Velvet.
COOL CONTRASTS
Create runway impact effortlessly with an ultra-matte smoky eye. First colour lids with eye crayon, Stylo Ombre Et Contour in Graphique, a rich gunmetal blue-grey, then sweep over with creamy blues from the Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow palette in Quiet Revolution, stretching out into a soft cat-eye. Finish with a slick of Rouge Allure Ink in Serenity, a sheer matte mauve that melts sublimely into lips, and luminous matte nails in Ultime.

QUIET EXTREMETIES
The plush matteness of Rouge Allure Velvet Extreme updates the classic red lip instantly. Here, in a bold, universal red, N° 112 Idéal, juxtaposed with a clean and simple coat of Le Volume de Chanel waterproof mascara and an illuminating touch of Vitalumiere Glow Luminous Touch Foundation.

SUBTLE STROKES
Eyes rimmed with kohl ever so delicately along the waterline are enigmatic—a perfect match with a blurred berry lip. Achieve this level of nonchalance with Rouge Allure Liquid Powder in Volupté, a deep raspberry by gliding the foam applicator across the centre of lips before diffusing it outwards with fingers for a just-bitten pout.
