Keanu Reeves is one gorgeous specimen of a man, who also happens to be one of the biggest film stars that Hollywood has produced. Yet, despite his fame, fortune, talent, and not to mention, good looks, Reeves has kept a low profile all these years. He pops up once in a while to promote a new blockbuster film he’s starring in, which always ends up being wildly successful—clearly, we can’t get enough of this man.

This time, the brooding heartthrob steps into the light as the new face of Saint Laurent (YSL) in their Fall/Winter 2019 campaign with Anthony Vaccarello as creative director. Which, by the way, also happens to be his first fashion campaign. The trio of black and white images, shot by British fashion photographer, David Sims is reminscent of John Wick—a ficitional film character played by Reeves. The third installament of which, comes out later this month. Which leaves one to wonder: What led Vaccarello to choose Reeves, a recluse, to front their new campaign? Could it be to ride on the coattails of all the publicity he’s been doing for John Wick: Chapter 3? Or could it be to give us a glimpse of Keanu via the lenses of fashion? To be honest, we don’t know. But what we do know is that Keanu is perfect for it!

Whether he’s on the red carpet of a movie premier or on the streets of New York City minding his own business, Reeves has a very specific style—understated yet elegant and sophisticated. Which echos what former YSL creative director, Heidi Slimane, did for the fashion house. Slimane modernised the brand’s rocker-chic DNA and created a demand for it amongst men and women alike. Which is why we think it was a no-brainer for YSL to have him as the face of their new campaign; he’s mysterious, is almost always dressed in black and is dapper yet edgy—kind of like YSL.
